MySpacers as employees
On Wednesday, I was an open space leader at VNU’s Blogs & Social Media Forum (for which I was on the advisory panel and helped bring speakers and other participants to the event). During the opening keynote panel of the conference, Chris Barger, IBM‘s “blogger-in-chief,” said that getting into social media is a necessity for IBM as they will very soon be recruiting employees from the MySpace generation - a generation of people who expect the dynamic of online social media and games in what they do.
Now that’s another angle on the MySpace phenomenon - not just “How do we sell products to these people?” or “How do we make our own MySpace?” or “How do we ingratiate our brand with the MySpacers?”, but “How do we recruit and work best with the MySpacers?” If your company isn’t thinking that far ahead about the candidate pool over the next few years, perhaps it should be.
